Opening Ceremony Held for Confucius Institute at National University of Mongolia

On May 2nd, a grant unveiling ceremony was held for the Confucius Institute at National University of Mongolia. More than 200 guests, such as Mr. Chai Wenrui, Charge d’affaires of Embassy of China in Mongolia, Mr. Wang Daqi, Cultural Counselor, Mr. Mishigjav, State-Secretary of Ministry of. Education ,Culture and Science of Mongolia, Mr, Tserensodnom Gantsog, President of National University of Mongolia, Mr. Zhan Tao, President of Shandong University, Mr. Ning Jiming, President of College of International Education, Shandong University, Naren, Head of the College of Foreign Languages at the National University of Mongolia, Mr. Li Mingqi, Chinese Dean and Mongolian Deputy Dean, Mr. Chimedtseye of the Confucius Institute at National University of Mongolia were present at the ceremony. A large number of Chinese and Mongolian media, such as Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily, Mongolia Central TV, Ulan Bator TV, Education TV, News in a New Century, Today, Mongolia Daily,、The truth、Mongol Messenger(Chinese edition)、Mongolian News (Mongolian Edition),etc, reported on the event.

Mr. Chai Wenrui, representing the Chinese Embassy in Mongolia, delivered an ardent speech and read the congratulatory letter from Hanban and Confucius Institute Headquarters.  State-Secretary Mishigjav representing the Ministry of. Education, Culture and Science of Mongolia delivered a speech. He expressed that it’s exciting to have a Confucius Institute in Mongolia. He hopes it will make great contributions toward the learning of Chinese by Mongolian young people, expanding teaching research and cultural communication and strengthening the friendship between China and Mongolia. Mr. Zhan Tao pointed out that through the establishment of the Confucius Institute, the great thoughts of Confucius will be better studied. Shandong University is also pledging its full support to help Mongolian young people learn Chinese language and culture, help Mongolia hold Chinese teaching and cultural promotion activities and deepen the communication and friendship between people of China and Mongolia. Mr, Tserensodnom Gantsog president of National University of Mongolia said that the main task of the Confucius Institute is to serve Mongolian people from all walks of life, and take part in all kinds of Chinese teaching research and educational and cultural communication. The National University of Mongolia Confucius Institute Foundation is in currently in the planning stages, and once established, will offer better support for Chinese teaching in Mongolia.      

The first council meeting was held after the ceremony, in which papers including “The Constitution of the Confucius Institute at the National University of Mongolia” and “Self-Financing Management Scheme” were passed and future work of the Confucius Institute was discussed.
