The 1st Confucius Institute in Japan– the Confucius Institute at Ritsumeikan, signed a cooperative agreement with Hanban on June 28, 2005, and the institute was formally created in Kyoto on October 1st of the same year. Based on the University of Ritsumeikan, the Confucius Institute at Ritsumeikan enjoys overwhelming predominance in teaching. Its teaching subjects include undergraduates, senior high school students, and people from all social circles. The school provides various education services and help, including Chinese teachings, teaching arrangements, materials publications, studying abroad with scholarships, consultation services, use of libraries and activities such as Chinese communication, plus learning advanced Chinese. In addition, the institute also creates the Tokyo Confucius Classroom of Confucius Institute at Ritsumeikan in Tokyo, and successively holds the lectures on China’s economy.
